PURPOSE OF POSITION:

This position is responsible for coordinating and delivering athletic training services to assigned teams including: prevention, recognition, evaluation and treatment of athletic injuries; acute care and emergency response to athletic injuries; rehabilitation and reconditioning of athletic injuries; and health care administration for the student-athletes.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Evaluates, treats and rehabilitates injuries of TAMUT athletes. Taping, bracing and preparation of student athletes for practice and games (events) of assigned sports.

Provides attendance and supervision, for safety preventive and emergency care of student athletes, at practices and games (events) of assigned sports. Travel, as directed and required, with assigned teams.

Charting and record keeping of student athlete injuries while utilizing current record keeping systems and protocols. Coordination and consultation with Physicians, and student athletes and medical facilities regarding health care. Consultation with coaches and parents regarding student athlete health care.

Assists in supervision of student athletic trainer apprenticeship education.

Maintains professional licenses and certifications.

Assists in maintenance and supervision of athletic training room, equipment and supply inventory.

KNOWLEDGE & SKILL REQUIRED:

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelors degree or equivalent combination of training and experience.

One year full-time experience or three years part-time, paid or voluntary experience as a student trainer.

Knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, and database software.

General knowledge of NAIA and NCAA rules.

Knowledge of drug testing procedures

Ability to comprehend oral and written instructions.

Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.

Medical & First Aid skills, including joint taping and physical therapy skills.

Must be able to obtain State of Texas License to practice Athletic Training within six months.
