The North Star Athletic Association (NSAA) is an NAIA college athletic conference that began play in the 201314 school year. The conference currently has eight full member institutions in Iowa, Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota and Wisconsin. The institutions include Bellevue University (Bellevue, NE); Dakota State University (Madison, SD); Dickinson State University (Dickinson, ND); Mayville State University (Mayville, ND); Presentation College (Aberdeen, SD); Valley City State University (Valley City, ND); Viterbo University (La Crosse, WI); and Waldorf University (Forest City, IA). The aim of the NSAA will be to promote the development of athletics as an integral part of the educational offerings of member institutions by means of self-governing, equal representation at the conference level. The North Star Athletic Association will be committed to a professionally run full-time operation, to activities that enhance the student-athlete experience, and to the welfare of its member institutions.

The Association is seeking a Commissioner who will report directly to the member school Board of Presidents (BOP) and will work directly with the Board of Athletic Directors (BOAD) and other NSAA committees. The Commissioner, working in concert with the Executive Committee, will establish the future office location with the goal of maximizing convenience and cost-effectiveness for the Association but would prefer for its location to be located in the Association region.

The Position: The Association seeks a leader of integrity with strategic management and relationship skills and proven success in the growth and management of complex organizations with significant understanding of athletic organizations. She/he will be responsible for long-term strategy and vision, growth of the Association, day-to-day management and the financial health of the NSAA. The Commissioner must display impartiality, transparency, honesty, and fairness in all activities. The Commissioner will be expected to represent and advance the academic and athletic prestige of the Association, especially in policy and membership discussions at the North Star Athletic Association and NAIA levels. The Commissioner will also be expected to be an active and engaged presence on member campuses and at Association meetings and athletic events. The Commissioner will work closely with the NSAA Faculty Athletic Representatives in matters pertaining to eligibility and compliance.

Required Qualifications:

- Bachelors degree and a working knowledge of intercollegiate athletics with demonstrated experience working with presidents and athletic administrators.

- Minimum of four years of senior administrative experience in athletics or related fields.

- Demonstrated experience in fiscal and budget management, marketing and promotional activities, and an acceptance of the importance of corporate sponsorships.

- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to effectively communicate and build relationships with internal and external constituents, other member conferences, the NAIA national office and beyond.

- Demonstrated commitment to upholding the quality of academics and integrity.

- Demonstrated experience in organizing and conducting championship events.

- The candidate must demonstrate past and current leadership opportunities, strong communication and organizational skills and be able to work effectively with a variety of different institutions.

Preferred Qualifications:

- Working knowledge of the NAIA, advanced degree in athletics administration or related field (Masters, Doctorate, or Juris Doctorate).

- Experience as a senior level athletic administrator.

- Successful candidate will reside or relocate to live within a state in the conference footprint.

Salary and Benefits: Salary for this 12-month position is commensurate with qualifications and experience and authorized travel expenses will be reimbursed. Start date is projected as November 2020. The successful candidate is preferred on a full-time basis as the Association will be a full-time operation and the commissioner will perform duties as outlined in the CCA White Paper on NAIA Conferences.
